As part of the larger West Gate Tunnel Project, the Monash Upgrade will see significant benefits for everyone using Melbourne’s freeway network – with increased capacity and improved traffic flow.

The project will include:

  • more than 30 kilometres of additional lanes
  • new ramp signals at nine locations between Chadstone and Pakenham
  • 38 electronic Lane Use Management Signs (LUMS) will be installed between Warrigal Road and the South Gippsland Freeway
  • eight new variable message signs installed
  • reduction in travel times by 10 minutes for the more than 200,000 vehicles that use it every day

It is anticipated that the project will create more than 400 jobs, and is expected to be completed in 2018.
